Kiekie 🇹🇴

Malo e leilei, last week to celebrate Tongan language week, our class had done DIY Kiekie’s. The Kiekie is seen as clothing of respect for Tongans because it is a significant part of the traditional Tongan culture. It’s worn by women on semi-formal events, if it is a highly formal event men and women will wear. Men wear a ta’ovalas while women wear Kiekie’s.

Thank you for reading my post! And happy late Tongan language week! – Aloema David

The Assumption of Mary

Today, August 15th is the Assumption of the blessed Virgin Mary.

What is it all about?
Assumption day is the belief of when Mary, the foster mother of Jesus Christ had, ‘died’. Her body was assumed up into heaven to be reunited with her soul, instead of passing on Earth and going through the natural process of physically decaying over time.

Why is it important?
Its an important day for the Catholic church and is considered to be the heavenly birthday for mother Mary in heaven since it was the day that Mary was brought/assumed up into heaven by the lord.

Fun facts about Mother Mary!

Her blue cloak is recognised to symbolise; the virgins purity, the sky, and label as an empress* since the colour blue is associated with Bryzantine royalty.
(Empress; a woman who is a sovereign ruler of great power and rank, especially one ruling an empire.)

Since the Church is the “Bride” of Christ, it makes sense that the bride should cover her head as a sign of authority, hence the reason why she covered her head in most of the paintings she is seen in.

She was around the ages, 15-16 when she had baby Jesus

Unlike in her paintings, where shes painted as a white woman, she is actually believed to be black/ a darker shade of skin colour since she and Jesus were in the Middle East. You can see these paintings by searching up, ‘Black Madonna’.

In some paintings, she is seen with a knife through her chest/heart. This indicates the sorrows that Mary had experienced in her lifetime, particularly through Jesus’ passion.

Doodling at home – Holidays.

During the holidays, I didn’t do much… I doodled small pictures, cartoony people and more in my black sketchbook(/diary I guess???). The holidays were boring and short. I wanted something exciting to do, like Rainbows End or some amusement park somewhere. It frustrated me with how I did absolutely NOTHING during the holidays. It would’ve been more fun to do some stuff besides drawing and watching TV at home. I wish we could have longer holidays, besides just 2 weeks off and back to school already.

Anyways thats all I guess, thanks for reading.

✨ Our MOTAT Trip! ✨

Hello!

Recently, we went on a trip to MOTAT *Mueseum of Technology and Transportation*. It was really fun and exciting! But, I really wanted to go to the MOTAT village, which we didn´t go. Lets set that aside and focus on the REAL topic here-
I´ll list my likings about the MOTAT trip!

What I liked about MOTAT

1. I loved the Plasma ball! Especially when we turned off the lights and touched it, the electricity followed our fingers touch which I thought was really cool.

2. It was fun to play some of the interactive games about energy and that inside the building.

3. I found it great exploring MOTAT´s pumphouse.. It gave off a vibe of a horror movie set! Maybe I would make a horror story based off of it.

That is all! I really enjoyed this educational experience, I would love if we could go again some time this year!

Thank you for reading <3

Filipino Independence Day

I felt sleepless when we walked into the hall. Filled with boredom, waiting for something exciting to take place. I almost fell asleep in my seat while ignoring several conversations near me. Since Moses’ seat was in front of me, I decided to play rock, paper, scissors until he turned away from me because he lost two times.

I was startled a bit when the assembly started since I was ready to shut my eyes and let my sleepiness embrace my vision. The items had begun, I watched each dance intrigued and invested. I was ready to cheer on for my class since I didn’t take part in the item.

When my class started, I yelled with excitement cheering them on along with everyone else. I started to applause, clapping loudly.. Though, my second attempt wasn´t so successful and seemed more.. Embarrassing. I stopped and waited for them to finish to clap loudly for their wonderful dance again. They finally finished and I clapped loudly for them.

The end, thanks for reading!! :3

Mother’s day :)

Mom, you sure like to plant.
But also rant.
You can scare me everyday in every way.
When your jokes are dry, I start to sigh with a smile that can go for a mile.
But when I receive your love, I feel like I’m above.
Sometimes we can get into fights, but without you, I´m not so bright.
You helped me every time I was pained, and sheltered me every time it rained.
When I cried, you dried my tears
and blocked out my fears.
I’ve already lost a father, but I haven’t lost a mother.
Sure, you aren’t so clever, but I wish to be with you forever.
Now, could I borrow some money?
Jokes, jokes, just tryna be funny.
Love you to outer space and back
Happy Mothers Day!! <3

All about me

Hobbies:
Hello, I’m Aloema. I recently became a Year 7 student this year. There are differences between me, for example, I like making new friends from different backgrounds and I dislike socializing a lot. My hobbies would be drawing, writing, reading and looking up at the stars. I want to learn astrology and anatomy so I could improve my art skills and create my own art style personally. I’d really like to become an art therapist so I could find ways to help other people using art and maybe astrology. It’s interesting to discover novels and imagine a whole series in my mind.

Challenges – Life, School and Sports:
Challenges in my life would be trying to get into some new hobbies without getting bored straight away. A challenge during school would be understanding new topics in subjects I struggle with, Maths specifically. Sports can be challenging because I’m not active most of the time, sometimes during Morning Tea or Lunch.

Education
I like learning new things in topics I enjoy, like Art, Reading, Literacy, etc. Sometimes it can be hard trying to improve in subjects I dislike, Mathematics, Science, RE and Oral Language. Some subjects can stress me, but I can overcome that with support from my peers or friends.

Family and culture
I come from a bloodline of strong Samoans, Germans and maybe more cultures. I want to discover more about my family and my cultural background. My 5 siblings (3 brothers and 2 sisters) all came to this school in different years.

Future career
I want to be an art therapist, why? So I can make myself useful for once. I also want to have a positive influence on anyone so I´m not seen negatively.
